The Earth (Officially: The State of Earth and the Sol System) is a one star state consisting of the Sol System and the planets therein. The planet Earth itself is the world of origin for the human species, who were first introduced to the galactic community when they encountered the Kuhneebo Conglomerate in 2261.

Earth's Western Hemisphere

Earth came to the forefront of galactic power as the capital of the Earth Federation. After its collapse, the planets in Sol engaged in a vicious struggle for dominance that killed off over 70% of the population. Mars and Luna frequently dominated these battles and after unifying the warring planets, attempted to reassert the Sol Systems place as leader of humanity, only to be driven back by other states that had sprung up in since the fall of the Earth Federation.

Due to Earth's historical significance, and key central position along the established travel lanes, it became a frequent target of invasions by human powers attempting to gain influence. By 3000, only the empires of Verandi and Kaladia were left to fight over Earth, which they did in 3004, triggering the Third Verandi-Kaladia War. The battle over the Sol System destroyed great swathes of landscape of Earth and Mars, and left countless other installation on the worlds in ruins. In 3347 a treaty was brokered between the Sol System and several great powers to turn the system into a Permanently Neutral Zone with Earth as the capital.

The Sol System hosts the Galactic Nations, which is headquartered in the Tranquility space colony orbiting around Luna. As part of its Permanently Neutral Zone status, Earth is not an active participant in the Galactic Nations, instead maintaining an observer status.
